Apr 24,  · Gladys' Leap was my first Fairport album (well, cd actually). I bought it knowing next to nothing about the band (except that Dave Pegg from Tull was in the band). I was hooked after the listening to the Medley (still one of my favorites by the band). Expletive Delighted. A bit patchy, but enjoyable enough.

Colin H on Fairport Convention. The Quest For Roger Burridge: 50 Years of Fairport Convention. I was particularly struck by how ‘The Hiring Fair’, a Ralph McTell song recorded for the ‘comeback’ album ‘Gladys’ Leap’ and always in the live act in the 80s/early 90s, to the point of becoming a bit dreary, frankly, actually.

FAIRPORT CONVENTION The History Of (Late 70s UK issue of the track double LP compilation on the orange sunrise label, housed in a gatefold picture sleeve with integral twelve page booklet & 'seal' on the front with darkblue ribbon. The cover shows very little shelf wear & the vinyl discs are Excellent with just the odd light sign of play ICD4).

The Hiring Fair This song is by Fairport Convention and appears on the album Gladys' Leap (). The Hiring Fair (Ralph McTell) Well, I went down to the hiring fair for to sell my labour. I noticed a maid in the very next row and I hoped she'd be my neighbour. Imagine then my delight when the farmer picked us both. I spoke not a word on the cart to the farm, But my heart beat in my throat.

FAIRPORT CONVENTION Vinyl Records and CDs: Any British geezer will tell you that Fairport Convention is the end-all be-all British Folk-Rock band. While The Byrds were watering their family tree throughout the s with West Coast sun flare, Fairport Convention were tapping into their own pastoral roots, performing traditional English folk.

Not the greatest of Fairport's efforts but neither is it an absolute clunker. My Feet Are Set for Dancing featuring Cathy Le Surf on vocals is possibly the worst Fairport song ever (yes, even worse than some of those on Gottle o'Geer)but any album that is the first to feature The Hiring Fair cannot be ruled out - the inclusion of this song alone would merit 5 stars almost/5(8).

They are widely regarded as the most important single group in the English folk rock movement.
